Dr. Kristann’s Nutrient Dense Molasses Cake

a Red Hill recipe

 Skip the bad-for-you, keep the delicious 

ingredients

16 oz almond butter

1/2 tsp. salt

2 eggs

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1/3 c. molasses

2 tsp. ginger

1 tsp. cinnamon

¼ tsp. ground clove

mix

Put everything in your Cuisinart and blend until smooth.
You can also mix by hand. Scrape into an ungreased
glass pie plate.

Bake at 350 for 35-40 min until tester comes out clean
(better a little bit less baked than a little more).

Cool & serve.

a note from Dr. Kristann

“This is not very sweet which is the way I like it. However, you could add an additional amount of maple syrup, honey or mashed dates to increase the sweetness. My recommendation is that the total amount of sweetener should not exceed ½ cup at the most. Remember that you can always increase the sweetness by adding sweetened whipped cream or yogurt sweetened with vanilla, honey and cinnamon.”

Do you dry brush?
Here’s why we think you should give it a try…

Dry brushing is an ultra-simple method of Self Care that sets the natural healing pathways in the body in motion (namely, the lymphatic system). Stimulation of the skin is one of the optimal ways to access and encourage the endocrine system and all of its glands very quickly.

It is very normal to feel an instant improvement of overall well-being when dry brushing…best to practice this technique in the morning, as the resulting feeling is indeed an invigorating one!

Benefits of dry brushing…

Stimulates blood and lymph flow
Helps eliminate toxins from the body
Removes dead skin cells
Encourages cells to regenerate
Stimulates production of sebum
Helps combat #cellulite

How, you ask? To start, all you need is a body brush with natural bristles. (If this is too rough feeling on your skin, a softer-bristled brush or a flannel will do the job just fine!) Dry brushing is done…well, this may seem obvious…on dry skin. A convenient time to do it is before or after your shower, especially if you shower in the morning. Because of the removal of dead skin cells during the brushing, some prefer to dry brush before they shower.
Start at your feet and work upwards, always moving “towards the heart” or center. Try to keep a steady rhythm going. Brushing of the whole body should take 3-5 minutes. From the feet up to the center, from the hands to the center, from the back to the center, from the chest down to the center… brush more lightly or with a finer-bristled brush for more sensitive areas like the face and neck.

You will soon see the difference after only a few sessions of dry brushing…your skin will have a rosy glow and will be much softer. Add this to your daily routine and reap the benefits of this incredible Self Care, inside and out!

 Dr. Kristann Heinz’ Green Soup 

1 Large Onion
2-3 Celery Stalks
1/2 Large Head of Cauliflower
1 Pound Fresh Spinach (or Green of Your Choice)
Vegetable Stock
Olive Oil

Put a big glug of olive oil in a soup pot, cut up onion and saute until translucent. Chop your celery and cauliflower and add. Continue to saute. Cover with stock (about 6 cups) and let simmer until the cauliflower is cooked through and soft. Turn off the heat, add your spinach and let wilt. Get out your hand-held blender-wand and puree the soup in the soup pot. Add pepper and good sea salt and enjoy.
